OUR NEW CHURCH PLANTING AND MULTIPLICATION DEGREE TRACK IS LIVE

Our new Church Planting and Multiplication certificate program and Bachelor of Arts in Ministry Leadership (BAML) concentration officially launched this Fall and will continue into the Spring semester, as Dr. Patrick Grach guides students through two new Ascent College classes.

CPM103 Formation of the Church Planter I (Spring A)

This foundational course focuses on the inner formation of a church planter. Students will explore personal character, including integrity, humility, and perseverance, and develop a strong sense of calling. The curriculum includes spiritual formation, ethics, and the development of vision, faith, and self-motivation – qualities deemed essential to church planters based on Ridley’s characteristics. Students will assess their own gifts and callings, begin to form their personal leadership philosophy, and learn to sustain a Christ-centered heart in ministry. This course serves as a prerequisite for the practicum courses, ensuring students have a robust internal foundation before engaging in practical ministry. It addresses the crucial spiritual formation, resilience, and exercise of faith (Ridley qualities #2, #12, #13).

CPM205 From Vision to Movement: Leadership Essentials for Leading from Church Planting to Multiplication (Spring B)

This course develops the practical leadership skills essential for effective church planting and multiplication, fostering a “multiplier mindset” from the start. Emphasis is placed on preaching to the unchurched, entrepreneurial ministry development, vision casting for Kingdom-minded growth (going beyond individual church success), team building, fundraising, and evangelism. Students will learn to develop these skills in others, fostering a multiplying leadership culture from the outset. It will explore how church culture determines multiplication success.

OUR MISSIONS AND INTERCULTURAL STUDIES COURSES ARE TAUGHT IN REAL-TIME BY ACTIVE MISSIONARIES

Our Ascent College faculty bring far more than classroom expertise; they’re raising families, working, leading ministries, serving their communities, and walking through many of the same real-life challenges our students are navigating. And this term, we’re leveling up that experience even further with two special visiting faculty members who are actively serving as global missionaries, bringing firsthand insights from ministry contexts around the world, including places most of us will never have the opportunity to visit.

Wondering who they are? You won’t find their names listed below. For their safety and security, given the places where they serve, they’ll simply appear as Professor X in the course listings, but we think you’ll find their real-world experience is anything but ordinary.

MIS306 Historic and Contemporary Issues in Missions (Spring A)

Beginning with the New Testament Church, this course evaluates movements and leaders throughout missions history, providing a rubric and guide for present and future missionary endeavors. Special consideration is given to the history of the Assemblies of God and Pentecostal missions. A Pentecostal approach to the unique challenges and opportunities facing missionaries today guides the content of this course. Spirit-empowered missiological thinking, grounded in Biblical truth, is applied to diverse contemporary missions issues to assist the church and the missionary to communicate Christ to the world.

MIS350 Disciple-Making in Global Contexts (Spring B)

This course equips students to become disciple-makers who multiply across cultures, religions, and worldviews, following the model of Jesus, Paul’s adaptive strategies, and lessons from global disciple-making movements. Students will learn and practice simple, reproducible methods that foster multiplying communities of faith, transcending cultural boundaries, and reshaping how the Church is understood and expressed.
