About the Certificate

The Women in Ministry Leadership Certificate is designed to empower and equip women for effective ministry leadership. Through five engaging courses, each lasting eight weeks, you’ll earn twelve credits while gaining the skills, knowledge, and spiritual formation needed to lead with confidence and purpose. This flexible and affordable program emphasizes personal growth, theological depth, and practical leadership strategies to help you make a meaningful impact in your ministry and community.

MIN242 Leadership Health for Female Leaders (3 credits)

God calls leaders to finish well and multiply. Using the passage in 2 Timothy 1:1-18, the student will discover four foundations for leadership development and sustainability: personal leadership development (core-self), the power of story (communication), skillsets (calling), and a sustainable network (community). This class enforces that women grow stronger by being together; this is especially true when women connect intergenerationally and learn from one another.

MIN 243 Communicating for Transformation (3 credits)

This course helps women sharpen their communication skills in multiple settings and allows participants to explore how gender potentially affects communication and develops tools for speaking effectively to mixed-gender audiences. They will learn how to develop talks and messages that are biblically accurate, relevant, and applicable to their audience.

MIN244 The Biblical Theology of Women in Leadership: Why Not Women? (3 credits)

This course tells the stories of women throughout the Bible and history. The use of Scripture and history provides two bookends that the issues concerning the ministry and leadership of women can be discussed and can help the student locate her story within the context of God’s story.

MIN342 How Remarkable Women Lead (3 credits)

Based on a five-year research study by McKinsey & Company, consultants Joanna Barsh and Susie Cranston linked five elements to all successful female leaders: meaning, framing, connecting, engaging, and energizing. This course is designed to bring definition and personal story to each trait and allow the students time for personal assessment to develop a strategic leadership growth plan for each element and enhance their lifelong leadership journey.

*All Ascent College students pursuing the Women in Ministry Leadership certificate program are required to complete GEN102 Orientation and Library Resources (0 credits).

"Every course in this program had a way of impacting my life.

I have become a better communicator, ensuring that I create a presence wherever I go. I have also gained a better understanding and interpretation of Scripture. My relationship with God has become very relaxed, knowing that God knows my weaknesses and still chooses me to serve in His vineyard. Holiness is not a state of perfection, but my continuous striving to please the Lord, depending on His grace to perfect everything that concerns me. I have become conscious that I need not be perfect to be used by God. I have confidence in service because I know that my gender is not a limitation for the Spirit of God to move through me. I encourage other women to join the Women in Ministry Leadership cohort because it is a place of learning and transformation. Praise be to the Lord and Ascent College for the opportunity.”

“There’s a lot of work to be done in the Lord’s vineyard

and we need more women to receive all the resources and the support available in this program to be able to do the work of ministry. The courses in the program will also give spiritual growth and guidance to a more fulfilling relationship with the Lord, even if it’s not in the direct pursuance of ministry. I have moved into a more personal relationship with the Lord. I see God in everything and have become more honest and open in my conversations with the Lord. As a ministry leader, my awareness has tremendously increased, and my eyes have opened to so many parts of the church.”

Evangeline Gbenartey
Ascent College Class of 2024

“Participating in this program has given me the confidence that God has given me a special message as a woman

and given me special gifts to carry out the assignment. To know that nothing I do can change His love for me and that my past, no matter how bad it is, can be used for His glory. Knowing this love gives me a better understanding of who I am and a clearer picture of what He has called me to do. God is calling an army of women to take the battle to the gate of the enemy; to raise a generation of children who will stand in the face of the world. These soldiers need to be equipped with knowledge of who they are and what they carry; they need to learn how to harness the gifts in the people they have been called to lead; that is what this course does. I pray that every woman gets the opportunity to take this course.”
